The Library is governed by its Board of Trustees — seven to nine residents of Bronxville Village, each appointed by the Mayor and the Village Trustees to a three-year unsalaried term of service.

The Board meets at the Library from 7-9pm on the second Thursday of the month (except August) to review with the Library Director the Library’s status; to determine, codify, and update policies; and to plan for the Library’s future. These meetings are open to the public; a schedule of meeting dates is opposite. Trustees also serve on one or more standing committees.

The Board works in close communication with the Friends of the Bronxville Public Library and is advised by a Village Trustee who serves as Library Liaison.

Image: Not in fact a meeting of the Library Board of Trustees but Thomas Beard’s depiction (detail) of a New York City Faro “Bank” in 1867. None of these men would make suitable Library Trustees, despite the excellent headgear. (The requirement that Library Trustees wear top hats to all but the August meeting was eliminated from Library By-Laws in 1954, along with the August meeting.)
